Physiotherapist

I have been practicing as a physiotherapist for the past 28 years with most of that time being spent in my own private practice. Movement is my passion, especially getting people to move more, and move better. Through the years, I have been implementing the biopsychosocial model of treatment to enhance the therapy, rehabilitation and advice I give to my patients. In so doing, I offer my patients (especially the chronic pain patients) “tools” to empower themselves to better self-manage their condition.I hold a degree in physiotherapy as well as a masters degree in Sports Medicine having obtained it in 2007.In addition to these qualifications,I also have a degree in psychology. I have a special interest in the following fields - Musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, sports injuries - Rehabilitation: post injury, improving functional capacity through increased physical activity and exercises before the anticipated surgery. This can accelerate the speed of recovery post injury and post surgery. - Rehabilitation post COVID and for Long COVID symptoms - Energy medicine & energy psychology - MAP( myofascial activated posture) instructor - Lifestyle strategist to guide patients with their health data through the use of connected wearable devices - Holistic physiotherapy, movement, rehabilitation and wellness classes offered via virtual and face to face encounters. My classes comprise of the following - Myofascial Activated Posture techniques and movements: this includes a combination of self myofascial releases and stretches, joint and fascia mobilisation through movement and muscle strengthening, especially targeting the core muscles. - Energy psychology and energy medicine techniques are included in the classes: to address and aid with healing with anxiety and stress, and dampen the flight-fight-and freeze response. This is also known as the amygdala hijack. -Various breathing techniques are taught and incorporated into the sessions. Diaphragmatic breathing is one form of breathing that is beneficial to our health and wellbeing. Breathing as a form of movement can be utilised at any time. I am also passionate about research and development. The advent of the 4IR is offering opportunities for physiotherapists to enhance their practice. The idea of incorporating technology into physiotherapy practice is something that I am keen to research and put into practice.
